Big Game Dads: How two rival coaches are thankful for their fathers

Our Stories: Big Game Dads

I served as the editor and co-producer on this feature for the Pac-12 Networks. Produced on an extremely tight deadline, the project was completed in just three days, and one of our most important interviews wasn't secured until less than 24 hours before delivery. Despite the compressed schedule, the collaboration and hard work of our team resulted in a feature that was nominated for a San Francisco/Northern California Emmy Award, making it one of the projects I'm most proud of.

The feature explores the unique bond between David Shaw and Justin Wilcox, head coaches of the historic rivals Stanford Cardinal football and California Golden Bears football. As the teams prepared for the 123rd edition of Big Game, both coaches reflected on growing up as the sons of respected football coaches and the lasting influence their fathers had on their lives and careers. More than a rivalry story, the film examines mentorship, family, and the enduring life lessons that football can pass from one generation to the next.
